Finally, the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update is coming, said the Community Manager of Vodafone who posted a statement in the carriers official community forum. He stated that the roll out has already been approved and it will be available starting April 12th via Over The Air (OTA) or using Samsung KIES application that needed to be installed on a PC.
For OTA updates, owners of Galaxy S2 smartphone will be able to receive notifications, or they can check the updates for their phones. The download process will be automatic as well as the installation of the new firmware provided a good Internet connection is available. For Galaxy S2 owners who want to update via KIES, then an official client needs to be downloaded and installed on the PC before they can pull down updates that will be pushed into the device. It includes several steps; tech-savvy people will not have problems with them but the newbies will definitely find some steps rather confusing, although all the steps are straightforward.
It hasn’t been the first time that the update for Samsung Galaxy S2 will be rolled out under the Vodafone UK network, but none was realized. This time around, we are hoping that the company will finally give the people what they were longing for so long a time. The problem is, the Community Manager that April 12th is just a provisional date and it could change anytime should things at their end do not go as planned. So, there is still a possibility that this update will again be postponed. But we are really hoping for the best this time considering our expectations as well as our mind set have already been set. Besides, I think Vodafone wouldn’t just post an announcement a day prior to the schedule and change it within the day. This roll out has a great possibility to be realized.
Galaxy S2 is one of the flagships of Samsung that sports a dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz frequency with 1 GB RAM. So this is a really powerful device and an update to Android 4.0 ICS will definitely bring this handset into its perfection, at least, before Samsung Galaxy S3 will steal the limelight from it. So, starting tomorrow, we who are using Galaxy S2 and are under the Vodafone network should definitely watch out for the notification. If you can’t wait, then install KIES and check from time to time if the update has already been pushed. Sometimes, KIES receive the update first.
