Just today, An alleged Verizon employee revealed or leaked Verizon’s plans in rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for HTC Rezound, Motorola RAZR, RAZR MAXX, Xoom 4G and Xoom 3G. We have been intentely following the Big Red about when the roll out for its devices would be rolled out and it seems that this is the end of our quest. The leakage was first posted on Reddit, a community-powered news website, where the tipster alleged that he is currently employed by Verizon. True or not, the photos he had taken and posted on the site seem real. Thus, it is worth a share. Anyway, check below for some details.
Verizon HTC Rezound ICS Update Details
Luckily, HTC Rezound owners under Verizon’s network would be able to start updating their devices on May 9th using over-the-air (OTA) method. The actual testing of the Android 4.0 ICS software update started on April 16th and would end on May 7th. Final checking will take two days after the testing is done so logically, May 9th is the ideal date for the push. It is a major update as the operating system will be bumped to a higher version so the package is considerably big enough at 297 Megabytes (MB). The downloading process may take several minutes depending on the speed of your connection but the actual updating process will take just a few minutes to complete.
Motorola Razr & Razr Maxx ICS Update Details
Among the lucky ones are the owners of Motorola Razr and Motorola Razr Maxx as they, too, will be getting an bump in the OS starting May 23rd. The ICS firmware updates for both Motorola Razr and Motorola Razr Maxx are currently in test which was started on April 19th and would end on May 17th. This is a very huge bump so you will be downloading a 341-MB package before you can install the updates. It will be pushed OTA on May 21st and would be made available for pull on the 23rd. Both of these devices will share the same package because technically they are the same with just few differences on the specs and hardware. These are also among the most popular devices the network offered so there could be more people who will be satisfied when this update will be rolled out next month.
Motorola Xoom 4G & Xoom 3G ICS Update Details
Although both have almost the same specs and hardware—except for 4G connectivity, of course—there will be a separate package. Unfortunately, there was no date indicated as to when the roll out for these handsets will be. It may be difficult to speculate but we have the reason to believe that it would come next month, too; the second quarter is actually ideal for updates and upgrades because when third quarter enters, that would be the time to release new devices. Thus, Xoom 4G and 3G owners could expect updates sooner than later. The packages for both have the same size of 106 MB. Basing on this, there could some tweaks and enhancements from there couldn’t be many. But at least, you know that you would be getting a bump in the following weeks.
And that’s as far as ICS updates from the Big Red is concerned. Basing on the photos posted by a Verizon employee, it seems that the company has actually been so busy in the past couple of weeks releasing ICS firmware for testing. You can expect that a month after the test firmware were released, the company will become even busier for the push. We haven’t heard new rumors regarding updates for other devices under the network but there could be some info soon.
