The Much Anticipated Sony Xperia S finally arrived in India where it has given a price tag of INR 32,549 or around US$630. Xperia S is Sony Mobile Communications’ new flagship Android phone which belongs to the NXT series. There have been so many rumors and reports revolving around this handset from the Japanese electronics company because it is considered to be on the high-level range in the smart phone market. Its predecessor, Sony Xperia Play, has been warmly accepted globally and has definitely prepared the way for the NXT series of smartphones. Meanwhile, Sony Mobile Communications also said that the next three phones that belong to the same category—Sony Xperia P, Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia Sola—will be released in India within the second quarter, or within the next couple of months.
Let’s try to dig into Xperia S a little deeper and see if this handset has the quality needed to impress tech enthusiasts and Android phone lovers. First, Sony Xperia S comes with a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.5 GHz frequency with 1 GB of random access memory (RAM) while sporting 32 GB of read-only memory (ROM) or storage space. It has a 4.3 inches display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution featuring LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen and Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine for clearer picture.
One of the turnoffs of this device is that it comes packed with Android 2.3 Gingerbread only and Sony didn’t mention if there were updates in the following months after it has been released. The operating system is really among the things that Android phone lovers or tech enthusiasts look as far as software is concerned. While Gingerbread has what it takes to be called a “good” mobile OS, the latest version, Android 4.0 ICS, is still most wanted by Android users considering the ultimate upgrades, updates, improvements and enhancements it brings. This is the factor where Sony has to step up if it seeks to lead the Android market.
Sony Xperia S comes in two colors for now—black and white—and is available in more than 15,000 retail stores in India. We still have to see how this handset performs in the Indian market even if previous Sony mobiles have been a great success in the country because the competition is now stiffer than ever. With other manufacturers continue to step up in every release of their new lines of phones, Sony has to cope up with them.
