AT&T users rejoice! The network has recently released the Android 4.0.4 (ICS) Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S2 over their network. Just what does this bring to your phone?
Aside from improvements to the camera functionality and other performance issue tweaks the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will finally allow users to fully utilize their phones with many apps that have been designed for the more advanced operating system.
According to Android’s website the Ice Cream Sandwich patch includes:
- A refined and evolved user interface
- Home screen folders and a favorites tray
- Resizable widgets
- New lock screen actions to let you do more without unlocking
- Quick responses for all incoming calls
- Improved text input and spell-checking capabilities
- A powerful and functional voice input system
- Increased accessibility
- Improved communication and sharing functions
This update can be easily added through either an OTA update on your handset (it may simply notify you of it being available) or directly through Samsung’s KIES update system.
A word of advice to those of you out there looking to update, though:
Often times updating your operating system on an Android device can bring about some significant changes to your phone’s overall functionality and usage. While this update is HIGHLY recommended to get the most out of your Samsung Galaxy S2 it is, nevertheless, a good idea to backup your phone data on your computer before going through with any updates just in case something can get messed up along the way (particularly if you’ve added a number of applications to your phone to customize its usage prior to the update).
To backup your phone simply connect it to your computer and use your favorite (or factory issued) synch program to backup all your data before proceeding with the update. After the update is completed be sure to test out all applications to make sure that they are sill functional. Often times they may need to be updated as well to match your current operating system, so don’t worry if you need to add a few additional features to ensure you are truly satisfied with your phone afterwards.
