Asus Transformer Prime owners will surely be delighted to hear this news. Asus, in its recent press release, announced that it will be releasing its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich FOTA update for the world’s first quad core slate starting this January 12, 2012. Originally released with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, the Transformer Prime flaunts a 10.1 inch Super IPS+ LCD capacitive display.
On the other hand, Asus unveiled the reason why it has decided to release the Transformer Prime with a locked bootloader. The Taiwan-based electronics company did state that they are only following their content providers’ requirements for DRM client devices. It can be noted that the tablet’s encrypted bootloader drove the Android modding community to demand for a legit explanation. Fortunately, Asus unveiled that an unlock tool for the Transformer Prime bootloader is currently being developed. But like what we always tell you, once you get to use this bootloader unlock tool on your Asus Transformer Prime, you will void your slate’s warranty and you will no longer be allowed to rent your favorite movies at Google’s video rental service. Sadly, we are yet to know when this unlock tool will be officially released.
In addition, Asus announced that a FOTA update that will upgrade your tablet’s build to 8.8.3.33 will be delivered to your slate within the next few days. Eventually, this update will fix and improve the focus of your tablet’s camera and you’ll basically get a smoother touch interface. The update will also improve the APK capabilities in the Android Market.
It is a good thing that Asus did respond to the demands of its loyal users. Thus, you need not wonder whether you’ll get an update that will upgrade your tablet’s firmware to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. If ever you feel the need to flash some custom ROMs on your Transformer Prime, you will soon be able to do so. Just wait.
